Human-in-the-loop automation

Keep people in control without keeping them busy.

Human-in-the-loop should mean the right person makes the decisions that matter. It shouldn't mean someone watches the automation, hunts down context, copies data between systems and restarts the work by hand. Malleable asks people for decisions and does the rest of the work itself.

For example

A refund over $500 needs a manager's approval. Malleable sends the manager the order, the customer's history and its recommendation in Slack. Once they approve, it issues the refund and emails the customer.

Who does what

Some decisions should stay with a person.

Some choices depend on authority, relationships or expertise that should stay with a person. Good automation marks those moments clearly and does the routine work that leads up to them.

Malleable gathers the evidence, makes a recommendation and sends the decision to the right person. It records what they decide and carries on with the operation. The person stays accountable without becoming the operation's coordinator.

Where people come in

People stay in control without coordinating the work.

Each person is asked only for the decision that's theirs, with what they need to make it.

The person who should decide

Each decision goes to the person whose authority or expertise it requires, instead of landing in a shared queue for someone to redirect.

Context gathered first

Malleable gathers the history and evidence and makes a recommendation before it asks, so the person can decide without starting an investigation.

Clear lines for the AI

Your experts decide which calls the AI can make and which stay with a person. Those lines are visible in the operation and recorded in every run.

Work resumes after the decision

Malleable updates your apps, lets the people involved know, and carries on without anyone re-entering data.

How it works

Let AI prepare the decision and carry out what follows.

The person takes part in one of these four steps. Malleable does the rest.

  1. 01

    Prepare

Malleable gathers inputs, checks requirements, fixes routine issues and assembles the evidence needed to decide.

  2. 02

    Route

The decision goes to the person with the right expertise or authority, in a form built for that decision, by email, Slack or Teams.

  3. 03

    Decide

The person sees the context and what each choice leads to, makes the call, and stays accountable for it.

  4. 04

    Continue

Malleable records the decision and finishes the work that follows, without anyone restarting it.

In practice

Design the handoff around the decision.

A person's time is best spent when the preparation and the follow-through are already handled.

Underwriting submission triage

Malleable assembles the submission, checks completeness, asks the broker for anything missing, and routes the case so an underwriter can focus on the risk decision.

RFQ quotes with margin checks

An operation reads the request, gathers costs, inventory and margin floors, and sends margin or lead-time exceptions to a pricing leader before the quote goes out.

A buyer's checklist

Look at what the person is still being asked to do.

An approval step isn't enough if the person still owns the research, routing, re-entry and follow-up around it.

  • Is the person involved because their decision matters, or because the automation can't go on without them?
  • Does the request arrive with the evidence and recommendation needed to decide?
  • Are authority boundaries explicit and visible to the people who own the process?
  • Is each decision recorded, with its context and who made it?
  • Does the operation continue on its own after the person responds?

Let's pick an outcome to improve. See results in days, not quarters.
